What’s on the menu in Puerto

Nothing says ‘Mexico by the sea’ like fish tacos, and nothing says ‘Puerto Escondido’ like Juan’s ‘Smoked Fish Tacos el Viejo’.

Tucked just off of Rinconada and a short walk from Playa Angelito and Playa Manzanillo, this

cosy joint is perfect for an impromptu lunch or a planned dinner, and man will you wish they served breakfast too!

Local surfing legend turned fisherman and cook, Juan, smokes all their fish in house and the result is the best smoked fish in town. If you don’t believe me just look at their reviews online! The menu at Juan’s is simple but perfectly done, and if smoked fish isn’t your thing why not try their Ceviche or Cameron Tacos?

Both are citrusy and delicious. The portions are generous (I can just about manage 3 tacos on a good day!) and the staff are super friendly. You can entertain yourself between tacos by perusing the many pictures of the Ramírez brothers surfing during the 70’s and 80’s that fill the walls.

If you’re looking to stick to a plant based diet whilst staying in Puerto, travel to the other side of town and, nestled beneath the shade of an ancient tree in Mar & Wana, Zicatela, you’ll find ‘The Jungle Grill’. Always presented beautifully they serve vegan and veggie takes on Mexican cuisine- it’s picture perfect, comforting and delicious. I recommend the Chilli Nachos!

Or, if you’re full to the brim with Mexican delights and are looking for flavours from further afield there’s always Mediterraneo . Serving up some delicious Italian dishes and their stone baked pizzas are top notch. Too tired from a days surfing to leave the house? they also deliver!
